Growing up on the Farm

who is james?

James McIntosh is a world award winning cookery writer, home economist and demonstrator.

James was brought up in Portadown, Northern Ireland by his home economics teacher mum and farmer dad, so food - "from farm to fork" - is all he has ever known. From an early age he was taught to appreciate the importance of fresh produce and the value of sharing regular meals with the family.

James now lives in London, where he runs his own internationally successful home economics consultancy, Whisk. The brand is synonymous with providing food styling, recipe development and consultancy support to major household names such as Aga, Le Creuset, Tefal and British Airways. James is also an authorised and experienced demonstrator for Aga and Rayburn, both nationally and internationally.

Before launching Whisk, James worked in recipe development for Le Cordon Bleu Cookery Schools and as a consumer researcher for the Good Housekeeping Institute. He continues to write features for publications such as The Guardian and House Beautiful, and frequently lectures at conferences the world over on a wide range of subjects.

In 2008, he addressed the World Congress of the International Federation for Home Economics in Switzerland. Most recently, he launched his own series of cookery books, mix., dinner., veg. and cake. which won the prestigious Gourmand award for best series of cookbooks in the world.  He is a member of the Guild of Food Writers and the IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals).

James is a regular on television and radio talking about saving money on food and fuel when cooking.

In 2009, he travelled along the Silk Road in China, presenting for a television series alongside Argentinian chef, Chakall. The series is being produced by China Food TV and will be aired during spring 2010.
